The expectation is for every child to read for a minimum of 20 minutes each evening. Journals need to be signed and children will receive 2 house points for each night they read and an extra 5 house points for reading every day within a week. Reading books when returned to school will be placed in a box and quarantined before going out again.

This year we will be focusing on learnng our times tables, we will begin by reviewing our 2s, 5s and 10s and then move onto learning out 3s, 4s, 6s, an 8s. Please practice times tables, with your child, at home as this will benefit them greatly through out the year.

Weekly spellings will be provided on a Monday, with a weekly test taking place on Friday. Year 3 children are expected to practice their spellings during the week, at home, to support and develop their spelling ability.

In incidence of self-isolation you will find the class work for the week on our year 3 Jotter page. This is so that your child can continue with their learning and not fall behind their peers, you will also find the dip and do homework on the Jotter page, where children can select a homework activity.

All children are required to take part in PE and they must have the correct school PE kit, they will also need a pair of trainers or plimsolls. For the winter months, they can also wear a pair of black jogging bottoms. If your child has an ear piercing please ensure that they can take them out themselves or that they are taken out before school. PE kits will be left in school until the end of term, when they will be taken home to be washed, please ensure they are then returned back to school at the start of the next term.

Jotter Learning Platform

At St Michael’s we subscribe to Jotter; the learning platform designed with primary schools in mind. Children are growing up in a fast-changing online world and we strive to ensure that they gain the essential skills both within and beyond school. Teachers will keep you up-to-date with your child’s learning. Your child will be able to download and upload work and complete tasks. There will be pages where much of what you see has been created by the children themselves. This is their chance to shine as they write content and collaborate on research.

Jotter gives children the opportunity to explore concepts such as wikis and blogs in a safe environment. We hope you enjoy using Jotter as much as we do. To log in please type in your child’s username and password. To obtain this information please speak to your class teacher.
