Curriculum Overviews

The expectation is for every child to read for a minimum of 20 minutes each evening. Journals need to be signed and children will receive 2 house points for each day they read and an extra 5 house points for reading everyday within a week. Reading books when returned to school will be placed in a container and quarantined before going out again.

Weekly spellings will be provided on a Monday with our weekly test taking place on a Friday. Year 4 children are expected to practice their spellings during the week at home to support and develop their spelling ability.

Times Tables

Near the end of Year 4, children will be completing their statutory times tables assessments. We will be practicing times tables throughout the year where children will need to practice both in school and at home. All timetables, from 1-12, will be tested and they will be given 6 seconds per questions.

Year 4 have P.E on a Monday afternoon. The children will be getting changed in school but in separate classrooms, girls in Miss Green’s class and boys in Mr Donnellan’s class. All children are required to take part in P.E and they must wear the correct school P.E kit, they will also need a pair of trainers or plimsolls. For the winter months they can also wear a pair of black jogging bottoms. If your child has an ear piercing please ensure that they can take them out by themselves or that they are taken out before school.
P.E kits will be left in school until the end of term when they will be taken home to be washed. Please ensure that they are then returned back into school on time.

In the incidence of self isolation you will find the classwork for the week on our year 4 Jotter page. This is so your child can continue with our learning and not fall behind their peers. You will also find the Dip and Do home work on the Jotter page where children can select a homework activity.

Jotter Learning Platform

At St Michael’s we subscribe to Jotter; the learning platform designed with primary schools in mind. Children are growing up in a fast-changing online world and we strive to ensure that they gain the essential skills both within and beyond school. Teachers will keep you up-to-date with your child’s learning. Your child will be able to download and upload work and complete tasks. There will be pages where much of what you see has been created by the children themselves. This is their chance to shine as they write content and collaborate on research.

Jotter gives children the opportunity to explore concepts such as wikis and blogs in a safe environment. We hope you enjoy using Jotter as much as we do. To log in please type in your child’s username and password. To obtain this information please speak to your class teacher.
